There are two modules of the IELTS Test:
- IELTS Academic
- IELTS General Training
Listening and Speaking Components are same in both Academic and General Training modules.

The total time allocated for the IELTS exam is 2 hours and 45 minutes. Writing, Reading and Listening are completed in one sitting. Speaking test may be taken seven days before or after the other test.

Listening Test
This component tests your ability to:
- Understand main concept of the audio
- Identify factual information and answer the question
- Identify the attitude and context of speakers
- Identify the purpose of the communication
Reading Test
This component tests your ability to:
- Distinguish between main idea and supporting details
- Look for specific information inside the passage
- Understand the writer’s perspective
- Understand the writer’s purpose
- Understand meaning of different words in varied context to be able to comprehend better
Writing Test
This component tests your ability to:
- Understand the topic and be able to organize relevant thoughts
- Use accurate vocabulary and grammar
- Form meaningful sentences
- Effectively convey or express your ideas and thoughts through words
Speaking Test
This component tests your ability to:
- Communicate your thoughts and convey information effectively
- Speak the language fluently
- Speak at a length and share ideas relevant to the topic given
- Pronounce the words correctly
